Warden Message Regarding Tropical Storm Ivo
Tropical Storm Ivo: Projected to threaten Baja California Sur, Mexico
This Warden Message is being issued to inform U.S. citizens living in or visiting the Baja Peninsula that Tropical Storm Ivo is currently moving toward Mexico’s Pacific Coast and the Baja Peninsula.
Ivo is currently a tropical storm, and has recently been downgraded from a Category 1 hurricane. Ivo is expected to produce significant wind and rainfall in the state of Baja California Sur. In addition to danger from wind, life threatening flash floods and mudslides are possible. Coastal areas along the Sea of Cortez are especially vulnerable to these hazards. The storm is projected to impact Baja California Sur the morning of Monday, September 24.
U.S. citizens living in coastal areas may be impacted by the storm and are strongly encouraged to contact their local “Proteccion Civil” office for updated information about the storm and preparedness measures to take. U.S. citizens in the projected path of the storm are urged to monitor media reports and follow all official instructions. U.S. citizens should stay in contact with relatives and friends in the U.S. to apprise them of their whereabouts, both before and after the storm. Visitors should be familiar with their hotel or cruise ship evacuation plans. If you must travel during this time please follow normal precautions that you would during heavy rains.
U.S. citizens should carry their travel documents (i.e. U.S. Passport, Birth Certificate, picture ID’s, etc.) with them at all times or secure them by placing them in a safe waterproof location.
Please visit The National Hurricane Center’s website http://www.nhc.noaa.gov to follow the storm’s path.
