Important Notice:  New DS-160 Visa Application Form required starting November 9, 2009

Starting November 9, 2009, individuals applying for a nonimmigrant visa at the U.S. Consulate General in Tijuana will be required to submit the new online DS-160 Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application.

The new DS-160 is a fully integrated online application form that will be used to collect the necessary application information from persons seeking a nonimmigrant visa. The DS-160 will be submitted electronically to the Department of State via the Internet. Consular Officers will use the information entered on the DS-160 to process the visa application and, combined with a personal interview, will determine an applicant’s eligibility for a nonimmigrant visa.

The new DS-160 simplifies the application process by replacing the previous forms:  DS-156, DS-157, and DS-158.  Filling out the single DS-160 form is free, easy and secure.  To assist applicants in Mexico, questions and instructions on the form have been translated into Spanish.

Individuals can access the DS-160 from the Department of State's Consular Electronic Application Center website https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/.  Applicants are not required to bring their entire application to the interview. The confirmation page is all that is needed to retrieve the application data.  Most fields on the DS-160 are mandatory. If applicants do not answer questions that apply, their form may be rejected.

Apart from the need to submit the new DS-160, there have been no other changes to the visa application process.  For information on how to schedule an appointment at the U.S. Consulate General in Tijuana, or for a list of other visa requirements, please visit the U.S. Consulate's website at http://tijuana.usconsulate.gov/.
