Partial Resumption of Consular Services in Cabo San Lucas
December 3, 2008. The Consular Agency in Cabo San Lucas is reopening with a partial resumption of services.
On Monday, December 8th from 8:00 a.m. through 5 p.m., and on Tuesday, December 9th from 8:00 a.m. until 11 a.m., an American consular officer will be at the Consular Agency to accept passport applications and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad, and to perform notarial and other consular services.
The one-and-a-half day presence of the American officer provides Americans in the Cabo San Lucas area a brief window to submit passport applications until a new Consular Agent is selected and can begin work.
After the departure of the American consular official, the Consular Agency will remain open, but with limited availability of services. For instance, the agency will be able to return already-processed documents and provide assistance in certain emergency cases, but will not be able to accept new passport applications or perform notarial services until a new, full-time consular agent is appointed.
The resumption of permanent staffing is a significant step toward re-establishing consular services to Americans living in and visiting Los Cabos and Baja California Sur. We hope soon to be able to provide a timeline for resumption of full services.
