“Americans and Mexicans are safer thanks to quick action by U.S. law enforcement authorities, who on Monday, August 14 located and captured Javier Francisco Arellano Felix, a leader of the drug trafficking gang that bears his name. A U.S. Coast Guard vessel captured Arellano Felix while he was deep-sea fishing in international waters off the coast of Baja California,” said Ambassador Garza.
“U.S. authorities in San Diego indicted Arellano Felix in 2003 on charges that include narcotics trafficking, racketeering, and conspiracy. His gang is accused of using its vast international connections to ship cocaine from Colombia into Mexico and the United States, and has been tied to hundreds of criminal acts ranging from property crimes to murder,” he added.
Said Garza, “Arellano Felix is now in the hands of U.S. law enforcement authorities en route to San Diego, and will face justice in the United States. This case reflects the commitment and cooperation of Mexico and the United States to go after and dismantle these criminal organizations.”
