“Mexicans will benefit from a faster and friendlier visa process to travel to the United States. Applicants no longer have to fill out forms by hand. New developments in technology now allow us to process applications more rapidly and read them more easily by using the Internet,” said Ambassador Antonio O. Garza, Jr.
In order to improve the efficiency and the security of all visa applications, beginning immediately, visa applicants throughout Mexico should submit their visa applications on form DS-156 completed on and printed from the internet site http://evisaforms.state.gov/instructions_Spanish.asp. The instructions and forms to complete can be found in Spanish at the same website.
“The Embassy and Consulates in Mexico will no longer provide blank copies of this visa application form (DS-156). For a few weeks, we will still accept visa forms from applicants who have completed them by hand – though they will have to wait in a longer line,” said Garza.
“However, we will no longer accept forms not generated from our website beginning October 16, 2006. From that day forward, the Embassy and all of our Consulates in Mexico will ONLY accept the electronically-completed visa application form available on the Internet,” Garza added. “The new changes will make things faster than ever. Filling out forms on the Internet is easy.”
All applicants must still request an appointment by calling the ‘Visa Information Service’ at 01-900-849-4949*. Anyone with additional questions can call that same ‘Visa Information Service’, or visit the Embassy website: http://tijuana.usconsulate.gov.
Ambassador Garza noted that by filling out visa forms on the Internet, “You, the applicant, will benefit from a system that speeds up your visa application process.”
*Visa Information Service has a cost of 12 pesos per minute plus IVA.
